Creativity, Ads and AI #2
Never a dull moment in the world of artificial intelligence, here’s what’s caught our attention in creative AI over the last week.
Google’s AI goes gender neutral
Google has said that its image recognition AI tool will no longer attach gender tags like "woman" or "man" to photos of people. Instead, it will tag any images of people with the rather more neutral "person." The reason behind this is that the company admits it’s difficult to tell someone’s gender from their appearance, and that its own ethical rules on AI say gendering photos could exacerbate unfair bias. The US Department of Defence has also been in the news this week talking about the ethics of AI use - more on that here.
Billie Eilish grilled by AI bot
An interview with a difference for music sensation Billie Eilish, as she was grilled by an AI bot. Some of the questions proved to be a little left-field (“How much of the world is out of date?”), but she handles it with style. Check out the interview below.
Behind closed doors at OpenAI
OpenAI is one of the world’s leading research labs, with a goal of creating AGI - a machine with the learning and reasoning powers of a human mind. Sounds like an exciting place to be; however, behind closed doors it seems things aren’t all rosy. This deep dive piece takes a look inside OpenAI, its principles, culture, investors and leadership. Worth a read for anyone working in the AI field.
